Taste
Thomas H. Handy 2020 is a highly sought-after bourbon that is part of the coveted "Antique Collection Series" produced at the award-winning Buffalo Trace Distillery. Named after the innovative bartender and Master Distiller Thomas H. Handy, this bourbon boasts a remarkable reputation in the world of spirits. Its rich and smooth texture features dominant notes of spearmint, complemented by delicate floral undertones. On the palate, you will discover creamy hints of butterscotch and vanilla, while the finish offers a long, satisfying experience, with lingering notes of baking spices, chocolate, and a subtle hint of cedar that lingers pleasantly, making it a truly memorable sip.

History
Thomas H. Handy 2020 is a bold spirit that has been around since 1782 and has evolved over the years without compromising on quality. It was a popular drink in bars and saloons, historically known as coffee houses. The renowned Sazerac Coffee House, founded in 1850 in New Orleans, became a gathering place for those who appreciated fine spirits. While the establishment gained fame, it wasn't until 1895 that it received notable mention in print. Vincent Miret, a bartender and co-owner at the Sazerac House, gained a reputation as the city’s best cocktail mixer. Initially, the recipe combined brandy, sugar, and bitters, but in 1885, brandy was replaced with Rye Whisky. Despite selling bottled cocktails in the late 1800s, the Sazerac was not mentioned until 1901. In 1919, Thomas H. Handy launched the Sazerac Company, just before Prohibition, and managed to survive by incorporating a restaurant and deli. By 1933, they returned to cocktail-making, launching a bar and lunchroom, and opening a manufacturing facility in New Orleans. The recipe was renewed, bottled, and sold exclusively at the Sazerac Bar until its closure in 1949, after which it moved to the Roosevelt Hotel, where it remains today. In 1952, the company began launching other spirits and acquiring brands, leading to the establishment of Buffalo Trace in 1999. This highly collectible spirit was a 2022 cask-strength rye-based release from Buffalo Trace's much-anticipated annual Antique Collection series. It is an uncut, unfiltered Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey and is one of five bottlings released each fall. For the 2020 release, barrels were filled in spring 2014, selected from those matured in Warehouses K, M, and N, with an evaporation rate of 32%.
